Frank J. Loehr
I am primarily a self-taught artist. In that endeavor, I have studied the work of other artists and painted and sketched countless pictures. While I respect forms of abstract art, representational art is my preference. My appreciation of classical art has inspired me to copy old masters such as Vermeer, Rembrandt, Greuze and Vouet. These efforts have helped a great deal in my understanding of painting and applying it to my current work. I paint in oils on canvas or panel. My goals are to achieve realistic effects in portrait, landscape or still life and for the painting to engage the viewer.
